The Block Party
Las Vegas , May 2, 2008: Shift – The Official Youth Ministry of Desert Spring United Methodist Church, today announced the dates for their 2 nd annual ‘Block Party.' On Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 6:00pm Desert Spring UMC will play host to this end of the school year celebration. The Block Party is open to youth entering grade 6, all the way to graduating seniors and admission is free. In addition to the party, in the coming weeks, youth will go door to door in local neighborhoods to collect bottled water in an effort to help the less fortunate this summer.
“We are very excited to host such an event and give back to the community. With temperatures soon hitting triple digits, it is ever more important that we begin collecting water to help our valley's homeless" said Clayton Payne , director of youth ministry. “All the water collected will go to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission and we know we will have an impact on the community. Together our community can provide for the growing number of people becoming homeless,” said Glen Simpson, program leader.
Flyers will be handed out to surrounding neighborhoods indicating the need for water and youth will later return in the week to collect the water that is left at the door. If you would like to help and make a tax deductible donation, you can do so by contacting us at the above noted information.
